At United Trust Bank (UTB), we recognise that financial wellbeing and mental health are closely connected. That’s why we’re proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week, the UK’s largest annual campaign dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing and encouraging open, honest conversations.

Led by the Mental Health Foundation, the week highlights the importance of mental health in our everyday lives, aiming to reduce stigma, improve understanding, and encourage individuals, communities and organisations to take positive action.

Mental health affects us all. Whether through our own experiences or those of people around us, most of us will encounter challenges at some point. As Matt Haig, bestselling author and mental health advocate, has said, “Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience.” It’s a simple but important reminder that mental health is part of all our lives, and that support should always feel accessible.

At UTB, we are committed to creating a culture where people feel able to talk openly and seek support when they need it. For our customers, that means taking a thoughtful and understanding approach, particularly where financial pressures may also be affecting wellbeing. Our teams are trained to listen with empathy and to work constructively with customers to find solutions that reflect their individual circumstances. Early, supportive conversations can often make a meaningful difference in reducing stress and uncertainty.

Mental Health Awareness Week is also a reminder to look beyond ourselves. Friends, family members and colleagues may be experiencing challenges that aren’t always visible. Taking the time to check in, listen and gently signpost someone towards support, whether that’s professional advice, a trusted organisation, or simply speaking to their lender, can have a real and lasting impact.

Mental Health Awareness Week is an opportunity to reflect, connect and take action. By continuing to promote understanding and making support visible and accessible, we can help build a culture where everyone feels able to look after their mental health and support those around them. As Stephen Fry reminds us, “It’s okay to feel fragile, because it’s in those moments we can learn to be strong.” It’s a fitting reflection on the importance of empathy, resilience and support, and a reminder that, together, we can all play a part in looking after what matters most.

At UTB, we know that managing finances can feel harder at times, especially when you’re under pressure. If you’re finding it difficult to keep on top of your account, please get in touch as early as possible. An early conversation helps us understand your situation and talk through the options available, so we can find the right support for you.
